Since I had some white lining fabric left over from my second Victorian petticoat, I decided to make some modern ones as well.
I used my ancient store-bought petticoat as a pattern, making one the same length, one three inches shorter and one three inches longer. They ended up about 40 inches by 15/18/21 inches.
I did French seams, since the fabric frays horribly, and added a 6 inch slit for mobility. The bottom edge of each one was the fabric selvedge, so no need for hems. The waist is a simple fold-over casing for quarter-inch elastic.
I raided my notions box for prettiness, and put a different type of lace on each one, along with some buttons. I am very pleased with these and have already worn the two shorter ones.
